With the plethora of books and activities available today, it can be hard to determine where to start or which ones would be good for your children or students. In today’s blog, I’m going to share five book/activity books to help teach kindergarten science!

Science activity books
Kumon K & UP Science is a perfect fit for our kindergarten. It has stickers to help keep the kids engaged, which is a major plus. The book is broken into three major sections, life science, Earth science, and space science, and has 48 different lessons.
This is the Nature Activity book I created for my own kids. I created it because I couldn’t seem to find a nature based activity book that didn’t involve spending a lot of money or trudging through the deep woods (which my kids would not enjoy like some would).
The activity book has between 8-10 activities for every season. If you want to see it more in depth, look at the specific post I made about it by clicking here.
Science based books
Little Acorn
I found the book Little Acorn at a discount store and instantly liked it. It has a semi-rhyming flow that tells the story of how an acorn becomes an oak tree and then produces its own acorns. There are sooooo many books out there about acorns, and this one is definitely a favorite.
Little Sunflower
Once we discovered Little Acorn, I looked to see if there were any more books like it, and there were! Little Sunflower is what I got next. It even inspired us to grow sunflowers in our yard so the kids could see it “come to life.” This one is just as good as the acorn book! Also, there is another book in the series called Little Raindrop that teaches the water cycle that is worth getting as well!
From Yard to Ocean
From Yard to Ocean is a book by yours truly! One day, I was planning a lesson for a local summer school on how water gets from our area to the ocean. I scoured the internet for a book to read before the lesson on the topic and really couldn’t find anything, so I wrote one!
In this book, you will join Robert the raindrop and follow his journey from Murphy, North Carolina to the Atlantic Ocean learning about different bodies of water along the way. At the end, there is a place based activity for you to discover how water from where you live could end up in the ocean. There no other book like it! Click the title or the image to see more!
